Teacher's NoteJLPT reading test strategy
①
Read the sentence first — Before looking at the options, read the full sentence and try to predict the correct reading or kanji yourself. Context usually makes one answer feel natural instantly.Read → predict → confirm · don't guess-and-eliminate first
②
On'yomi vs. Kun'yomi clue — Kanji inside compound words (like 月曜日・火曜日) almost always use on'yomi. Kanji used alone or with hiragana (like きれいな月) use kun'yomi. This single rule can eliminate two wrong answers instantly.compound → 音読み (さん・か・げつ・すい) · standalone → 訓読み (やま・かわ・みず)
③
Distractors look similar on purpose — Wrong kanji choices (e.g. 末・本・休 for 木) are deliberately similar in shape. The best defence is writing practice — your hand remembers stroke differences that your eyes miss at a glance.writing 木 five times is worth more than staring at it for five minutes
